"Academic Decathlon helped me realize the value that I had academically, even though I may not have had the best grades. I had never participated in any extracurricular that made me feel like I was a part of a group and I was able to find that in Decathlon."

"Academic Decathlon gave me a family, a chosen family. It obviously taught me about each topic each year, but it also taught me about supporting others in their goals, academic, competitive, or personal. Academic Decathlon helped make me a better person, and gave me people to love and care for. It has given me a thirst for knowledge I was not interested in before, in cultures I was not before. Academic Decathlon and my team shaped who I am and for that, I am forever grateful."

"It helped me learn how to study large amounts of information and gave me a love of art history. It also helped me become more confident in my speaking and interview skills."

"Decathlon connected me with people who became my family. Before joining Decathlon, I was heavily involved in choir, so that change was especially hard on me, but my peers helped me feel welcome. My coaches were also very supportive and made the class fun with each of their personalities. The program also forced me to learn a lot of study tactics that have aided me in college, and the scholarships I received are still being used to pay for textbooks and housing costs."
